FAQs

What should I expect during my massage therapy visit?

We will begin by going over your goals to establish what areas you would like worked on, if there are any conditions needing to be addressed, and to determine if massage is appropriate for you. We may perform certain assessments and testing to evaluate your condition if needed.

Do I have to be completely undressed?

It all begins with your comfort level. I have clients who stay fully dressed to clients who remove everything. The most common is removing every thing except the bottom under garment. The important areas always remaining covered. The reality is that leaving on some clothes does limit various techniques I can use. However, my first and primary goal is for tou to feel comfortable and if that means leaving some clothes on, I will work around the clothes you leave on as best as I can. I will work within your comfort level.

I will step out of the room to give you the privacy to undress and get comfortable on the table.

Do you require draping?

Yes, draping is required if the client is undressed. I always default to a very modest draping to assure everyone is comfortable. I will only undrape the part of your body being worked on at any given time.

My draping and massage will ALWAYS be within the law and the clients comfort level.

If you plan on remaining partially/fully clothed, wear comfortable clothes and ones in which you do not mind getting oils or lotion on.

How long will a massage treatment last?

I provide the option of 45 min, 60 min, 75 min, 90 min, 105 min, 120 min. The hands on massage time is for the full listed time. Consult and getting on the table do not come out of your massage time like it does at most locations.

If you only have one local area you want focused on, 45 min is usually enough time. 60 min and 90 min are the most common. The longer the session the more areas we can work without having to rush.

What type of massage do you do?

I am a Certified Medical Massage Therapist. I specialize in therapeutic massage including Deep Tissue, Myofascial Release, Trigger Point Therapy, along with other various styles of Structural Therapy.

Will the massage hurt?

Pain can be an indication that the muscle is possibly injured or inflamed and pressure should be adjusted. Also, pain can cause you to tighten up and negate the effects of the massage. The most effective and deepest massage always works with your body's natural response, not against it. I will always work within the intensity you are comfortable. In therapeutic massage it is common for it to be intense but within your limits.

What type of clients do you work with?

I work with a lot of the general public who want to maintain health, those with current or chronic pain, and the weekend warriors. However, in my Manhattan clinic, I also work with a lot of professional dancers including Ballet and Broadway along with professional and Olympic athletes.

Where do you work?

I have a clinic where I see clients in Manhattan 2-3 days per week and the other 4-5 days I see clients in Stroudsburg, PA.

What do you charge?

My Rate is $100-60 min, $150-90 min, $200-120 min. Hands on massage time is the full listed time 60, 90, 120 minutes. Many places often provide 50, 80, 110 minutes of hands on time.

What is your clinic like?

In Stroudsburg my office is in a Large beautiful Victorian home. The first floor is completely private to clients. I have a waiting area and separate room for massage.

In Manhattan it is a standard clinic with multiple therapists.

Is it ok to get a massage while menstruating?

Yes, this is not an issue at all.

Massage Techniques I Use

Deep Tissue

Deep Tissue massage has in a sense lost a beneficial meaning because some people and even therapists use this term to refer to a Swedish relaxation style of massage but with firmer pressure than usual. Others refer to a more therapeutic bodywork style of massage. I am skilled in both and we will figure that out in the consultation before we start your massage we will clarify what you are referring to.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial release applies direct and/or linear sustained pressure on targeted areas of connective tissue (fascia) that surround your muscles and bones. Fascia can best be explained as cling wrap.

Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger Points are a specific type of “knot” that refers pain to an area located in a different location than the “knot”.

Trigger Point Therapy is performed by holding pressure on the specific muscle knots, thus bringing in more blood flow and releasing the muscle therefore breaking the spasm-pain cycle.

Sports Massage

Sports Massage is a manipulation of the soft tissues of the body via massage and stretching techniques that focuses on muscles relevant to the specific sport an Athlete competes in. It also varies greatly depending on the sport and whether the Sports Massage is being performed shortly before the sporting event or right after the sporting event. Before the event, Sports Massage will assist the athlete in preparing their body to perform optimally during their event. Sports Massage performed post event will help with cooling down, decreasing lactic acid, post event soreness, and overall speed up the recovery process. Sports Massage performed more than a week prior to a sporting event is focused on making any structural changes to the athletes body that will help them perform at their optimal ability.

Many people when asking for a Sports Massage are more often looking for a more therapeutic style of massage with some stretching included. But we will figure that out during consultation.
